A pick-up truck stands still in the middle of the road. Kate screams as Richard spins the wheel and swerves the car to avoid hitting the other one. The crucifix around Kate's neck spans off while the car spins out of control, then coming to a quick halt. Kate sits still in the passenger seat breathing heavily. Richard quickly unbuckles his seatbelt and jumps out of the car.

RICHARD

What the FU-

Richard slams the car door shut and Kate slowly gets out, shaking and grabbing for where the crucifix should be. Kate slowly rounds the front of the car as Richard jogs over to the other car in the middle of the road.

RICHARD

Hey! Hey!

There is no response from the other car as Richard shouts at it. The car is old and beat up, completed covered in dust and mud. It would seem the car had been sitting in the middle of the road for 100 years.

KATE

Is there anyone in there?

Richard almost ignores Kate as he barely shakes his head signaling that he doesn't know. Kate runs over to Richard as they come to the passenger side window of the old truck. There's an old man inside, just as dirty and dusty as his truck. He's in the driver's seat motionless. Kate takes a step back and brings her hands up to her chin. A strange feeling comes over her from the sight of the man.

KATE

Is he OK?

Richard turns to look at Kate.

RICHARD

I think he's dead.

KATE

Oh my God.

The man in the driver's seat quickly jumps up and erupts in laughter, scaring both Richard and Kate.

RICHARD

Jesus!

The man continues laughing hysterically.

RICHARD

Are you alright, man? I thought you were dead! Are you alright?

The old man continues to laugh.

RICHARD

What are you doing in the middle of the road?

KATE

Come, on. Let's go. He's crazy.

RICHARD

You have to get out of the road! You're going to get yourself killed. Shit, you almost killed us!

The old man stops laughing and turns to look at Richard.

OLD MAN

It don't matta' when ye' already dead!

Richard looks at the man and then slowly turns away and motions for Kate to get back in the car. The old man starts shouting verses from the Book of Revelations. Richard and Kate slowly walk back to the car.

OLD MAN

Oh, Miss! Hey, miss! C'mere!

Kate and Richard turn around. Kate starts walking back towards the old car. Richard tries to stop her but she ignores. He follows her from a distance.

OLD MAN

I think ye' dropped 'dis!

The old man lifts his hand up and out towards the passenger side window. He opens his hand a bit and Kate's crucifix falls from his hand, the chain catching his thumb. Kate stares at it for a moment as it dangles from the old man's cigarette stained, dry, crusty hand.

KATE

Th- thank you.

Kate slowly reaches for the crucifix. The man stares into her eyes as if he's burning a hole into her skull. Kate stares back and then quickly grabs the crucifix. The man bursts into laughter again as Kate scurries back to the car. Kate and Richard get in and drive away. The old man continues laughing uncontrollably, shouting more verses from The Bible. Richard and Kate drive off into the distance as the sun almost finishes to set.
