INT. Richard and Kate's kitchen - NIGHT

Kate and Richard are eating dinner at their kitchen table.

KATE

Don't you think that's a little weird, though?

RICHARD

Weird? Yeah...a weird coincidence.

KATE

Coincidence that as our car is spinning out of control, my crucifix breaks off of my neck, flies out my window, which was only opened half way, mind you, through the air while the car, in it's wild spin, was perfectly lined up with the truck, through HIS passenger window, and onto his lap?

Kate finishes and Richard takes a mouthful of his dinner and chews it real quick.

RICHARD

I've seen weirder things happen. I saw this guy on "Ripley's Believe it or Not" one time. This Chinese assassin. He could kill you from something like a hundred yards away using nothing... but a sewing needle.

Kate plops her arms to the table and gives Richard a blank stare.

RICHARD

What? It was amazing! You should've seen it. It's a really good show.

KATE

What does that have to do with what we were talking about?

RICHARD

Well, it explains the coincidence! Air speed velocity! Look... if a crazy Asian assassin can kill you from 300 feet away with a needle, then a crucifix can fly off your neck, while in a wildly spinning car, and into another one.

Kate starts to laugh at Richard's simplicity and tosses a crumpled up napkin at him.

KATE

You're an idiot.

RICHARD

Ah, but you like stupid guys. It makes you feel better about your intelligence level.

Kate gasps and throws another napkin at Richard as he fends them off. The laughter dies down.

RICHARD

Have you checked yet?

KATE

...in the morning.

The two grow quiet with a mixed feeling of nervousness, fear, and excitement. Kate takes another bit of her meal and then looks at the wall behind Richard. The crucifix mounted on the wall suddenly comes loose on the nail its affixed to and swings to an upside down position.

KATE

And ALSO in the morning...will you PLEASE fix that. It creeps me out when it does that.

RICHARD

Yeah, I'll get to it tomorrow.

KATE

That's what you've said the last six times, handyman.

Kate and Richard continue to joke with each other as the upside down crucifix "looks on"

EXT. RICHARD AND KATE'S HOUSE - MINUTES LATER

Kate's car comes flying into their driveway. She jumps out of the car in a frenzy and runs to the front door.

KATE

Richard! Richard!

Being flustered, Kate can't work her keys and pounds her fists on the front door. A man dressed in a black rain coat comes out of nowhere and grabs her from behind. It's Richard.

RICHARD

Jesus Christ! What's the matter with you?

KATE

What are you doing out here?

RICHARD

The power went out! I came out to see if it was just the circuit breaker...nothing, though.

Kate just whimpers slightly in his arms.

RICHARD

What's the matter? You OK? Come on, let's get inside.

INT. RICHARD AND KATE'S LIVING ROOM-MOMENTS LATER

Candles are lit to illuminate the living room. Kate and Richard are sitting on the couch.

RICHARD

Are you sure it was the same guy?

KATE

It looked JUST like him! Except he was like...well he looked dead.

RICHARD

Dead?

KATE

Yeah...I don't know. It was really weird. He looked pretty pale; and like... it looked like his eyes were glowing.

RICHARD

Well that could've just been the reflection of your headlights. You said he turned to look at you right when the lights came on, right?

KATE

Yeah, I think so. It's hard to remember. It was just so jarring at the time. Ah! It was like something out of a bad horror movie.

RICHARD

And you're sure he was following you? Maybe he was just on his way home, too.

KATE

I don't think so, Richard. He was parked on the OTHER side of the road, facing the opposite direction from where I was going. He got in his car, turned around, and followed me!

RICHARD

What was he doing out of his car, anyway?

KATE

I don't know.

Richard gets up and peers out the window.

RICHARD

He didn't follow you all the way home, did he?

KATE

I don't know.
